Abstract

Abstract. This research was conducted on a gas transportation pipe along the 1,978 meters above and below the ground level. This study aims to determine the type of corrosion that occurs in the pipe, the corrosion control method applied, the corrosion rate and the remaining useful life of the pipe and the external environmental factors that influence it.The methodology used in this research is the measurement of pipe thickness reduction to determine the corrosion rate and the remaining useful life of the pipe based on API 570. Measurement of pipe thickness reduction was done using an Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge Panametrics MG 2 DL at 12 test points. Environmental conditions in the study area were acidic with a soil pH of 5.8 - 6.2, and soil resistivity of 2,357 – 3,441 ohm.cm, including in the very corrosive - corrosive category.The types of corrosion that occur in this gas transportation pipe are uniform corrosion and erosion corrosion. Externally applied corrosion control methods are the coating method (Polyken Liquid Adhesive System 1027), the wrapping method (Polyken 980/955) and the cathodic protection method of the sacrificial anode system (SACP) using Mg metal.

Abstrak. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada pipa transportasi gas sepanjang 1.978 meter yang berada di atas dan di bawah permukaan tanah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis korosi, metoda pengendalian korosi yang diaplikasikan, metoda proteksi katodik sistem anoda korban, laju korosi dan sisa umur pakai pipa serta faktor-faktor lingkungan eksternal yang mempengaruhinya. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pengukuran pengurangan ketebalan pipa untuk menentukan laju korosi dan sisa umur pakai pipa berdasarkan API 570. Pengukuran ketebalan pipa dilakukan dengan menggunakan alat Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge Panametrics MG 2 DL pada 12 test point. Kondisi lingkungan di daerah penelitian merupakan lingkungan asam dengan pH tanah 5,8 – 6,2, serta resistivitas tanah 2.357– 3.441 ohm. Cm termasuk dalam kategori sangat korosif - korosif. Jenis korosi yang terjadi pada pipa transportasi gas ini yaitu korosi merata dan korosi erosi. Metoda pengendalian korosi yang diaplikasikan secara eksternal yaitu metoda coating (Polyken Liquid Adhesive System 1027), metoda wrapping (Polyken 980/955) dan metoda proteksi katodik sistem anoda korban dengan menggunakan logam Mg sebagai anoda korban.
